Denmark Implements Measures to Prevent Student AI Fraud

Denmark's Ministry of Education is taking a proactive stance against the misuse of artificial intelligence by high school students, introducing new measures ahead of the upcoming academic year. The initiative aims to ensure students engage in genuine learning and develop critical thinking skills.

To address concerns about AI-generated assignments, written works exceeding a certain length will now necessitate an oral defense. This will allow educators to verify the student's understanding and authorship. Furthermore, computer-based exams will be equipped with screen monitoring tools to prevent unauthorized use of AI or other forms of cheating during assessments.

An additional measure encourages educational institutions to allow students to complete at least a portion of their written assignments within the school premises, under controlled conditions. This aims to create an environment where academic integrity can be better maintained.

Minister of Education Magnus Heunicke stated that there is a "real problem" with young people inappropriately using AI, which hinders their learning and independent thought processes. The ministry is also committed to developing a comprehensive national strategy for the integration of AI throughout the Danish education system.
