Dentist Cleared in Patient's Death During Implant Surgery

Police have decided not to indict a dentist who was under investigation for professional negligence resulting in a patient's death during implant surgery. The dentist, identified as 'A', had been investigated by the Jeonbuk Provincial Police Agency.

The incident occurred on the morning of February 5 last year when patient 'B', a woman in her 60s, was undergoing an implant procedure. During the surgery, she suddenly lost consciousness and stopped breathing. Despite being transported to the hospital, she ultimately passed away.

Following the patient's death, B's bereaved family filed a complaint with the police, alleging that A's negligence caused the fatality. The police, however, conducted a thorough investigation into the matter.

After reviewing the evidence, the police concluded that there was insufficient grounds to indict the dentist. Their decision was based on several factors, including the dentist's thorough assessment of the patient's physical condition prior to the surgery. They also noted that the patient had no prior unusual symptoms during a past tooth extraction surgery. Furthermore, the police determined that the dentist provided appropriate emergency medical care immediately after the patient's condition deteriorated. Consequently, the police determined that the dentist bore no criminal responsibility for the patient's death.
