Deputy Senate Minority Whip Rufai Hanga dumps NDC

Senator Rufai Hanga, the Deputy Senate Minority Whip, has officially resigned from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC). Hanga, representing Kano Central, submitted a resignation letter dated August 3rd to the NDC ward chairman in Nasarawa Local Government Area, Kano State. His resignation is effective immediately.

I am writing to formally notify you of my resignation from the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), effective from today, 3rd August 2026.

Senator Hanga had recently joined the NDC, following his political associate Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso. The NDC was recently registered as a political party, and Hanga's move was seen as a shift from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

After careful reflection and personal deliberation, I have decided to withdraw my membership from the party to pursue other personal commitments and career paths.

In his resignation letter, Hanga stated that his decision came after "careful reflection and personal deliberation." He expressed a desire to "pursue other personal commitments and career paths." He thanked the party's ward executive committee and members for their support and fellowship during his time with the NDC, acknowledging the relationships and experiences gained.

I want to express my sincere gratitude to you, the Ward Executive Committee, and the entire membership of Dakata Ward for the opportunities, support, and fellowship I enjoyed during my time with the party.

Hanga also requested that his name be formally removed from the party's membership register at the ward level and asked for his official NDC membership card to be invalidated. He extended well wishes to the NDC and its members for their future endeavors.
