Detained Mayor Claims Operation Was Pre-Scripted Based on Prior Threat

Kuşadası Mayor Ömer Günel, currently detained, has made a striking claim regarding the recent operation that led to the arrest of municipal employees, a council member, and local businesspeople. Günel alleges he received a letter months prior that precisely outlined the scenario of the current investigation.

According to Günel, the letter was sent by Ferdi Zenginoğlu, the individual whose testimony under the "effective remorse" provision reportedly forms the basis for the arrests. Günel stated that the letter detailed how Zenginoğlu was allegedly pressured and threatened to provide testimony against specific individuals. The letter also allegedly warned Günel that Zenginoğlu would become an "informant" if his demands were not met, and even specified who would be accused and of what.

Günel expressed his distress at seeing the events unfold exactly as described in the letter he received months ago, concluding that the current situation is not a coincidence. He questioned the timing of the early morning arrests, suggesting it was an attempt to shape public perception, especially since those named in the testimony were willing to provide statements voluntarily.

Furthermore, Günel criticized the rapid dissemination of information and "publications" on social media and some news outlets before judicial proceedings were complete. He argued that declaring individuals guilty before a court verdict undermines the presumption of innocence and harms not only the arrested individuals and their families but also the public's sense of justice.

As a legal professional, Günel stated his belief in the Turkish judiciary's ability to uncover the truth and deliver justice. He called for an end to the tarnishing of innocent people's reputations based on unproven allegations and expressed hope for a Turkey where the rule of law prevails, free from pressure and manipulation.
