Deutsche Oper Berlin Launches Intendancy With All-Night Arts Spectacle

Berlin's Deutsche Oper is set to host a grand spectacle this weekend, marking the beginning of Aviel Cahn's tenure as its new director. The event, curated by artist Rirkrit Tiravanija, promises an immersive experience from Friday midday through Sunday evening.

The celebration kicks off with a costume parade, a collaborative effort by artists Petrit Halilaj and Álvaro Urbano. Attendees will have the opportunity to borrow costumes from the opera's extensive collection and join opera singers in a lively procession. Beyond the parade, the weekend is packed with a diverse program, including various performances, installations, children's face painting, and concerts.

As night falls, the opera house is set to transform into a vibrant club, with a separate admission fee for entry during these hours. Aviel Cahn, who previously served at the Grand Théâtre in Geneva and has experience in artistic leadership in Beijing, Helsinki, and Bern, takes over from Dietmar Schwarz. His appointment signals a new era for one of Berlin's major opera houses.
