Devastating Fire at Bukovnik Farm in Slovenia Claims All Livestock

A devastating fire engulfed the Bukovnik farm, Slovenia's highest-altitude farm located in the Solčava municipality, around 3 a.m. on Tuesday. The blaze completely destroyed a barn housing all the farm's livestock, along with machinery. Tragically, all animals, including approximately 20 head of cattle, pigs, and other domestic animals, perished in the fire.

The fire is suspected to have been caused by a lightning strike, according to preliminary reports. The Administration of the Republic of Slovenia for Civil Protection and Disaster Relief confirmed that the fire broke out in Podolševa, Solčava. The entire barn, a sawmill, workshop, garage, and auxiliary agricultural building were consumed by flames, with parts of the residential house also sustaining damage.

Firefighters from PGD Solčava, Luče, Ljubno ob Savinji, Črna na Koroškem, Mežica, and Prevalje worked to contain the inferno. During the incident, two people sustained injuries from burns and smoke inhalation. Emergency services transported them for further medical treatment. Reports indicate the farm's owner was among those taken for medical care.

The family residing at the farm, including children, managed to escape the burning house safely. While the fire is now under control, the house is largely a ruin. Police are present at the scene. The Bukovnik farm, situated near Raduha mountain, is a popular destination for hikers.
