Fire in Ptuj extinguished; three replacement apartments sought

Firefighters in Ptuj successfully extinguished a fire that erupted in the roof structure of an older building on Ormoška cesta around midday. The building, located near the Supernova shopping center, contains three apartments and covers approximately 500 square meters.

Primož Korošak, head of the intervention from the Ptuj Volunteer Fire Brigade, stated that the fire was primarily concentrated in the roof space. He described the firefighting efforts as challenging due to the building's size and the difficult access to the roof, which was covered with sheet metal. The fire spread quickly, but firefighters managed to contain and extinguish it, though they continue to cool down remaining hotspots.

The fire started in the roof structure, and we had the most work extinguishing it there. The building is large, the roof was difficult to access and covered with sheet metal. We had trouble getting to it, and the fire spread quickly.

Fortunately, all ten residents of the three apartments were outside the building when the fire broke out, and no injuries were reported. However, the building sustained damage, and temporary accommodation will need to be found for the displaced residents.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and the police have launched an investigation. During the firefighting operation, an unusual incident occurred: while firefighters were using a drone, they detected another unidentified drone operating in the vicinity. The Ptuj Volunteer Fire Brigade issued a warning, urging the owner of the unknown drone to land immediately and cease endangering the intervention site and their operations.
