Development Plus in Sejm: Who Belongs to the New Club?

A new political force is emerging in the Polish Sejm as former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announces the formation of a parliamentary club named "Rozwój Plus" (Development Plus). The initiative stems from a group of parliamentarians connected to Morawiecki's association of the same name, who feel marginalized within the ruling Law and Justice (PiS) party.

According to Krzysztof Szczucki, Paweł Jabłoński, and Łukasz Schreiber, key figures involved, Morawiecki himself is slated to lead the new club. They stated that the group comprises approximately 40 MPs and senators who believe they have been "pushed out" of PiS. This move aims to establish a distinct political platform for the "Rozwój Plus" association's operational activities.

In the last period, we witnessed very strange party games in PiS, which are completely unnecessary, and the real splitters want to lead to the fact that we will deal with party life, with ourselves.

Morawiecki has expressed frustration with what he described as "strange party games" within PiS, deeming them unnecessary and a distraction from substantive political work. He indicated that his group is not interested in internal party procedures, especially as they believe a decision regarding their exclusion from PiS was effectively made last week, citing remarks by party leader Jarosław Kaczyński.

The formation of "Rozwój Plus" will make it the third-largest club in the Sejm, following Civic Coalition (KO) with 156 members and PiS with 147. The club is expected to begin functioning as early as Wednesday, according to Sejm Marshal Włodzimierz Czarzasty. The list of founding members includes prominent figures like Anna Baluch, Ryszard Bartosik, and Szymon Szynkowski vel Sęk, among others.
