PiS MP announces he is joining Mateusz Morawiecki's association

Piotr Uściński, a Member of Parliament (MP) for Poland's Law and Justice (PiS) party, has announced his decision to join the "Rozwój Plus" (Development Plus) association founded by former Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. Uściński stated his motivation is to see Poland return to a path of development similar to that fostered by Morawiecki's "United Right" government.

Uściński is no stranger to Morawiecki's administration, having served as a secretary of state in the Ministry of Development and Technology from 2021 to 2023. He has been an MP since 2015, previously holding positions as a regional assembly councilor and district governor. Uściński has been re-elected to the Sejm in 2019 and 2023, securing a significant number of votes in the Warsaw-suburban constituency in the latter election. He also unsuccessfully ran for a seat in the European Parliament in 2024.

This move comes after a period of internal division within the PiS party. In September 2020, Uściński was temporarily suspended from PiS membership for violating party discipline by voting against amendments to animal welfare laws, specifically those banning fur farming. The suspension was lifted after two months.

Uściński's decision to join "Rozwój Plus" brings the number of MPs affiliated with the association to 40. This follows a recent directive from PiS leadership requiring members to sign a declaration ceasing their activities within separate associations. Grzegorz Lorek was among those who signed the declaration, reducing the number of MPs refusing to comply to 39. The situation highlights the ongoing political realignments within the Polish right-wing.
