Dhaka-Chattogram Highway Faces Severe Congestion in Munshiganj Despite Easing in Narayanganj

The Dhaka-Chattogram highway is experiencing severe traffic congestion on its Dhaka-bound lane, particularly in the Munshiganj district, causing significant delays for passengers. The gridlock stretches for kilometers, from the Meghna bridge through Gajaria and Bhaberchar to Gouripur in Daudkandi, with travelers reporting being stranded for up to five hours.

This extensive tailback is a direct result of emergency repair work undertaken on the Ashariarchar Bridge in Sonargaon, Narayanganj. A large pothole developed on the Dhaka-bound lane, posing a risk of accidents. Consequently, the Roads and Highways Department began repair operations, necessitating the closure of one of the two lanes on the bridge.

Although the repair work on the Ashariarchar Bridge was completed and the section reopened, the congestion has not dissipated. Instead, the tailback has intensified and extended beyond the Daudkandi Toll Plaza, reaching Jinglatali. Officials attribute the continued delays to the cumulative effect of heavy traffic volume and several vehicle breakdowns within the affected sections.

While traffic flow has reportedly normalized in the Kanchpur and Sonargaon areas of Narayanganj after the repaired lane was reopened, the pressure has shifted downstream. Highway police have been working to manage the situation, but the sheer volume of vehicles attempting to navigate the narrowed passage continues to cause significant delays. Authorities anticipate that traffic conditions will gradually improve as the vehicle pressure eases around the Meghna area.
