Diamondbacks Star Ketel Marte Nearing Return After Unexplained Absence

Arizona Diamondbacks' star player Ketel Marte is anticipated to rejoin the team's starting lineup next week, specifically for the series against the Philadelphia Phillies beginning August 31st. This return follows a perplexing and unannounced absence from the team, marking the second consecutive year Marte has left unexpectedly.

Marte was placed on the team's restricted list on August 17th. Following discussions with the team, he was subsequently moved to the 10-day injured list with left knee inflammation on August 20th. Prior to this, Marte was photographed at a casino while his team was playing a game, adding to the mystery surrounding his departure.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo confirmed that Marte has begun hitting practice and expressed his hope for the player's smooth reintegration. Lovullo acknowledged Marte's private nature and stated the team would find an appropriate time for him to address his teammates. I understand it's possible, but we will all stand by him," he stated. Marte, 32, has had a solid season, hitting 21 home runs with 76 RBIs and a .760 OPS in 118 games. He is currently under a six-year contract extension worth $116 million, which runs through 2030 with a player option for 2031.
