Dinamo Zagreb Dominates Kauno Žalgiris 5-0 in Champions League Playoff

Dinamo Zagreb took a commanding 5-0 lead against Kauno Žalgiris in the first leg of their Champions League playoff tie. The Croatian champions dominated the match, with goals from Miha Zajc, Scott McKenna, Mateo Lisica, Luka Stojković, and Lukas Kačavenda.

Kauno Žalgiris coach Željko Sopić, a Dinamo fan himself, admitted his team was outmatched. "Dinamo is for the Champions League, and we are for the Conference League," Sopić stated. He explained that playing in front of smaller crowds in Lithuania might suit his team better, contrasting it with the challenges of performing before 10-12,000 fans in Zagreb.

I am a fan of Dinamo and I am not nervous. I am aware of my team. It would be the same if we played against Lech Poznan or Crvena zvezda. It will be easier for us in the Conference League. When we play in front of 10-12 thousand fans, we make some big mistakes. There are not that many fans in Lithuania. Dinamo is for the Champions League, and we are for the Conference League.

Sopić congratulated Dinamo on their deserved victory, acknowledging the financial and quality differences between the clubs. "Quality pays, quality costs," he remarked, adding that his team is not balanced. He confirmed that Kauno Žalgiris would concentrate on their league campaign rather than aiming for an unlikely comeback in the second leg.
