Directed by David Robert Mitchell, known for "It Follows," the science-fiction thriller defies easy categorization. Set in the late 1970s and early 1980s, it follows the Platt family, who inexplicably transition from a normal suburban life to a prehistoric territory inhabited by dinosaurs. Mitchell described the script's origin as a simple image that struck him during a walk: a dinosaur in a garage or alley.

Mitchell's fascination with dinosaurs dates back to his childhood, influenced by his father's own obsession. "When I was little, he dreamed of being a paleontologist, although he actually worked for Chrysler. So there are some elements of that personal experience, of my own experiences, that are present in the film," the director explained.

The film stars Ewan McGregor as Greg Platt, a father facing a personal crisis after losing his job and experiencing marital problems with his wife, Denise, played by Anne Hathaway. Denise, in turn, secretly writes about a woman seeking freedom. Abrams praised the film's ability to maintain its core meaning, focusing on family dynamics rather than becoming solely a monster movie. He highlighted the difficulty and skill involved in achieving this balance.
