DISCOURSE: THE STAMP OF A MASTER

Pakistan Post has unveiled a unique set of stamps commemorating the renowned artist Sadequain on what would have been his 96th birthday. The stamps, released on June 30, 2026, are notable for their record length, measuring 280mm by 40mm each.

These special stamps feature miniature reproductions of Sadequain's ambitious mural, "Arz-o-Samawat" (The Earth and the Heavens). This mural, housed in the Sadequain Gallery at Frere Hall, is considered his most ambitious and possibly largest work. However, it remains permanently unfinished following his demise in 1986, leaving an intriguing empty blue space.

Sadequain himself reportedly referred to the Frere Hall mural as his "own Sistine Chapel." The newly issued stamp sheet includes two panels from this ceiling artwork, alongside the entire length of the mural, presented in a perforated sheet that allows for the display of all three record-length stamps together.

The unveiling took place at the Pakistan National Council of the Arts (PNCA) in Islamabad, highlighting the cultural significance of Sadequain's legacy. The stamps are being hailed as the longest in the world, adding a unique dimension to the commemoration of the artist's prolific career.
