Discover Your Name's Meaning: Reniec Offers Free Consultations at Lima Book Fair

Visitors to the Lima International Book Fair (FIL Lima 2026) have a unique opportunity to discover the origins and meanings of their names, thanks to a free service offered by Peru's National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec).

The institution is participating in the FIL Lima 2026, held from July 22 to August 6 at the Jockey Convention Center in Santiago de Surco. At stand number 129, the public can inquire about the origin, meaning, and popularity of their names. This initiative aims to bring identification and civil registry services closer to citizens through engaging activities.

In addition to the name consultations, attendees can receive guidance on electronic IDs (DNI electrónico), other identification services, civil registries, and Reniec's virtual platforms. However, Reniec clarified that no official transactions or procedures will be processed at the fair.

Reniec will also host a presentation of its academic journal, 'Nombres,' volume 9, issue 2, on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. in the Laura Riesco auditorium. The presentation will feature Reniec's national chief, Carmen Velarde Koechlin, and include discussions with experts from the Institute of Peruvian Studies (IEP) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) on identification, civil registries, and their societal impact in Peru.

The Reniec stand will also feature interactive activities for all ages, such as 'Identimento,' 'Ludo de la Identidad,' and a 'Ruleta Giratoria.' These games are designed to educate visitors about the history of identification in Peru. The institution will also display academic publications and research related to identity and civil registries. The stand will be open throughout the duration of the book fair.
