Peru province establishes July 10 as new official holiday

The province of Tambopata in Peru's Madre de Dios region will now observe a new non-working holiday every July 10, following the government's promulgation of Law N.º 32734. This official decree, published in the state gazette El Peruano, designates the day as a mandatory rest period for both public sector employees and private companies operating within the province. The holiday coincides with the historical founding anniversary of Puerto Maldonado, the provincial capital.

This new legislation aims to facilitate greater citizen involvement in the commemorative activities organized for this significant date. The law was approved by the Congress of the Republic and subsequently enacted by the executive branch. Its publication in El Peruano solidifies its official status. The measure is intended as a tribute to the capital of Madre de Dios and to bolster the civic, cultural, and protocol activities that mark this important anniversary, considered one of the most representative dates for the province.

The non-working holiday will be observed across all public sector workplaces and private enterprises within Tambopata province, adhering to existing labor regulations. This allows workers to participate in the anniversary celebrations of Puerto Maldonado. The law also mandates that the Provincial Municipality of Tambopata, in collaboration with the Regional Government of Madre de Dios and relevant authorities, implement necessary measures to ensure the continuity of essential services during the holiday. These services include healthcare, public safety, emergency response, and other indispensable provisions for the population.
