Ditoka calls for stronger Fiji-Palau ties

Fiji’s Foreign Affairs Minister Sakiasi Ditoka described Fijians living and working in Palau as “everyday ambassadors” during a meeting with the community.

Ditoka praised their contributions across professions, including health, and thanked them for their service in Palau and their continuing connection to Fiji. He also urged overseas Fijians to respect the laws, customs and traditions of their host country while preserving their Fijian heritage.

The minister acknowledged the friendship between the Fijian community and Palau’s traditional leadership. He said the recognition given to Fijians represented acceptance, belonging, respect and trust, rather than merely the outcome of a formal ceremony.

Ditoka said the relationship between Fiji and Palau depends not only on government contacts but also on the people of both countries. He added that Fiji wanted to expand its economy and deepen cooperation with countries in ways that benefit its people.

The talanoa session also gave the government an opportunity to hear about the experiences and concerns of Fijians living abroad and to consider how government services could better support them.
