The conflict between the United States and Iran has flared again after a month, with Washington reporting strikes on Iran and Tehran announcing retaliatory attacks.

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said they had attacked two US military air bases in Jordan with ballistic missiles, causing “heavy damage,” according to Iranian state media. Jordan’s army said it intercepted eight missiles but did not identify their origin. Iran later said it had targeted US military personnel at a base in the United Arab Emirates.

The United States said its forces struck two Iranian launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz. US Navy Captain Tim Hawkins said Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces had been observed preparing to launch rockets carrying sea mines into the waterway.

Washington also planned to press its economic campaign against Tehran at a G20 meeting. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was expected to push efforts to isolate Iran, including wider secondary-sanctions threats. Meanwhile, Iran’s supreme leader Mojtaba Khamenei called on Muslim countries in the region to unite against the United States and Israel. The UAE central bank said it would conduct an urgent examination of Banque Misr’s branches in the country after Washington moved to cut the Egyptian bank off from the US financial system over alleged efforts to economically pressure Iran.
