DMC forecasts gusts up to 70 km/h and probable white wind for Coquimbo and Valparaíso mountain ranges

The Directorate of Meteorology of Chile (DMC) has issued a warning for moderate winds in the cordilleran areas of Coquimbo and Valparaíso. The forecast predicts gusts of up to 70 km/h and the possibility of "white wind," a phenomenon associated with significant snowfall and reduced visibility, driven by an approaching frontal system.

Specifically, Coquimbo is expected to experience winds ranging from 40 to 60 km/h, while Valparaíso will see winds between 25 and 40 km/h. The DMC also anticipates isolated snow showers and increased cloudiness in these regions.

In response to the potential weather impacts, an Early Warning Alert has been declared for several communes within the Coquimbo region. This alert signifies preparedness for the anticipated weather conditions, which include strong winds and snowfall in the higher elevations.
