Dominican Republic faces rain and high temperatures

The Dominican Republic is bracing for a day of unsettled weather, with the Institute of Meteorology (Indomet) forecasting scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms across several regions on Monday. The increased cloudiness and precipitation are attributed to moisture from an approaching tropical wave combined with the influence of a trough.

Areas expected to experience these conditions include the northeast, southeast, and southwest regions in the morning. During the afternoon, the forecast indicates a higher likelihood of downpours, thunderstorms, and isolated wind gusts in provinces such as La Altagracia, Santo Domingo Norte, Monte Plata, San Cristóbal, Monseñor Nouel, San Juan, San José de Ocoa, and Dajabón. Rainfall is expected to decrease by nighttime.

Meanwhile, residents will continue to contend with hot temperatures. Minimum temperatures are predicted to range between 23°C and 25°C, while maximum temperatures will reach between 33°C and 35°C. Indomet advises the public to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged sun exposure between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., wear light clothing, and seek cool, ventilated spaces. Special attention is urged for vulnerable groups, including children, pregnant women, the elderly, and individuals with health conditions.

Indomet is also monitoring three tropical disturbances. One located southwest of Cape Verde has a low chance of development, while another moving off the west coast of Africa has a higher probability of cyclonic development within seven days. A third disturbance associated with a trough near Bermuda is not expected to pose any danger to the Dominican Republic.
