Dominican Republic mixed 4x100m relay disqualified, loses gold medal

The Dominican Republic's mixed 4x100m relay team has been disqualified and stripped of its gold medal at the Central American and Caribbean Games. The quartet, comprising Fiordaliza Cofil, Mayovanex de Oleo, José González, and Liranyi Alonso, had initially finished with a time of 40.89 seconds.

However, officials determined that the team committed obstruction during the first baton exchange and encroached on a neighboring lane during the final leg of the race. This infraction led to their disqualification, altering the final podium standings.

Following the Dominican team's disqualification, Jamaica was elevated to the gold medal position with a time of 41.06 seconds. Mexico secured the silver medal with 41.14 seconds, and Cuba claimed the bronze medal with 41.16 seconds.

Despite the unfortunate outcome for the Dominican delegation, the team's performance on the track showcased the national athletics program's power, speed, and competitive capability in relay events.
