Tejeda grabs javelin bronze for Dominican Republic at Central American Games

Dominican athlete Yeisi Tejeda secured the bronze medal in the women's javelin throw at the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. Tejeda, known for her versatility in the heptathlon, achieved a throw of 54.95 meters, earning a podium finish amidst enthusiastic home crowd support at the Félix Sánchez Olympic Stadium.

The competition saw a high technical level, with Colombia's Flor Ruiz claiming the gold medal. Ruiz not only defended her title but also set a new games record of 67.34 meters, surpassing her previous record of 63.80 meters set in Veracruz 2014. The silver medal also went to Colombia, with Valentina Barrios achieving a best throw of 58.14 meters.

This bronze medal marks the sixth medal contributed by the athletics discipline to the Dominican Republic's tally at the multi-sport event. Tejeda's achievement adds to the successful performances of Dominican athletics, including gold medals from marathon runner Álvaro Abreu, sprinter Liranyi Alonso, and the mixed 4x400m relay team, as well as bronze medals from Melbin Marcelino (men's 100m) and Ana Timá (triple jump).
