Dominican Republic's 4x100 relay team regains gold after disqualification overturned

The Dominican Republic's 4x100 mixed relay team has reclaimed their gold medal from the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games. Judges initially disqualified the team, but a protest review on Tuesday overturned the decision, restoring the original results.

The organizing committee announced Wednesday that the protest against the team, composed of Mayovanex de Óleo, Fiordaliza Cofil, José González, and Liranyi Alonso, was deemed invalid after nearly 24 hours of review. This decision reinstates the team's initial victory.

Mexico, which had finished third, was disqualified due to an infraction during a baton handover in a non-permitted zone. This ruling means Cuba has been awarded the bronze medal. Mexico's appeal was also denied by the Games' technical directorate.

The Dominican quartet secured gold with a time of 40.89 seconds. Jamaica finished second at 41.06, and Cuba took third with 41.18. The initial disqualification had stemmed from two alleged infractions by the Dominicans: obstruction during the first baton exchange and lane invasion after the third pass. Athletics has been a strong discipline for the Dominican delegation, contributing seven gold medals so far.
