Mérida Defeats Humbert to Reach Third Round in Canada

Spanish tennis player Daniel Mérida has advanced to the third round of the Masters 1000 Canada tournament after defeating France's Ugo Humbert. Mérida secured a decisive victory with a score of 6-3, 6-3 in a match lasting 1 hour and 32 minutes.

The world No. 63 displayed a cleaner game, recording 19 winners against 21 unforced errors, a stark contrast to his French opponent's 16 winners and 36 unforced errors. Mérida capitalized on his opportunities, breaking Humbert's serve four times out of nine chances, while only conceding one break himself.

With this win, Mérida has equaled his best performance in a Masters 1000 event, a feat he previously achieved this year on clay in Madrid. In that tournament, he was eliminated by Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Mérida now joins his compatriot Rafa Jódar as the only Spanish players remaining in the tournament. He is scheduled to play his third-round match against American Alex Michelsen, ranked world No. 42, who eliminated Argentina's Francisco Cerúndolo.
