Dominican Republic Supreme Court Judges Face Reappointment Review

The National Council of the Magistrature (CNM) in the Dominican Republic is evaluating 11 Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) judges for reappointment, four months after their terms concluded.

Seven magistrates seeking reappointment were interviewed this Tuesday. These include Justiniano Montero Montero, Francisco Jerez Mena, Vanessa Acosta Peralta, Samuel Arias Arzeno, Alejandro Bello Ferreras, Fran Soto Sánchez, and Rafael Vásquez Goico. However, the current SCJ president, Luis Henry Molina, along with Nancy Salcedo, María Garabito, and Manuel Carbuccia, will not seek to continue in their roles, leaving four immediate vacancies.

The evaluation process for the remaining seven judges was delayed, as the CNM had not been convened since the magistrates' terms ended in April. Nancy Salcedo, the CNM secretary, confirmed that a decision on the evaluated judges is scheduled for Friday, August 28, according to the established timeline. The final number of vacancies will be determined by the CNM's decisions on these seven judges.
