Dominican Republic to Train 90,000 Teachers Before 2026-2027 School Year

The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Education is launching a nationwide training program for more than 90,000 teachers. This initiative is a key part of the preparations for the 2026-2027 school year, which begins on August 24 with over 2 million students returning to classrooms.

The program, operating under the slogan "Education that inspires and transforms," emphasizes the teacher's role as a catalyst for learning and change. It aims to enhance pedagogical skills, teaching strategies, and the effective use of educational technologies. A team of 11,098 trainers, who have themselves undergone prior training, will lead the sessions across the country.

Key topics will include planning with didactic sequences, competency-based assessment, and leveraging assessment results for improved student outcomes. The training also focuses on integrating active technologies into the classroom to enrich the learning experience. This nationwide effort is designed to foster a collaborative environment where educators can share new approaches and prepare for the upcoming academic year's challenges.

Alongside the teacher training, the Ministry of Education is undertaking other preparatory measures. These include supplying schools with necessary materials and resources, as well as upgrading and expanding educational facilities. These actions collectively aim to ensure that both the physical and pedagogical conditions are optimal for the students' return.
