Dominican swimmer Amores wins silver in 50m butterfly at Santo Domingo 2026 Games

Jianna Amores secured a silver medal for the Dominican Republic in the 50-meter butterfly at the Santo Domingo 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games. The 15-year-old swimmer clocked 26.41 seconds, narrowly missing gold to Marina Spadoni of El Salvador, who finished in 26.38 seconds. Celia Pulido of Mexico took bronze with a time of 26.51 seconds.

This silver medal marks Amores' second achievement in the competition, having previously won a bronze in the 100-meter butterfly on July 30. Combined, these two medals represent the Dominican Republic's first-ever medals in these specific swimming disciplines, highlighting a significant milestone for the nation's athletes.

The victory for Spadoni also set a new record for the event, surpassing the previous mark set by Arianna Vanderpool of the Bahamas in 2014. Amores, who is described as a sports enthusiast from a young age, believes that sports education should begin in schools.
