Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa has clarified President Bola Tinubu's recent comments regarding the construction of flyovers by state governors, asserting that the President did not condemn the practice universally. Aiyedatiwa explained that Tinubu's remarks were specifically aimed at discouraging the building of flyovers in areas with insufficient traffic, rather than prohibiting necessary infrastructure development.

During the flag-off ceremony for a 2.38-kilometer flyover project on Oba Adesida Road in Akure, the state capital, Aiyedatiwa addressed concerns that the President's comments might be misconstrued. He emphasized that the newly initiated project in Akure was precisely the kind of necessary infrastructure the President would support. "He said they should not erect them where they are unnecessary. The governor highlighted the strategic importance of the Oba Adesida Road axis, describing it as one of Akure's busiest arteries. He noted that a careful study confirmed its necessity due to high traffic congestion, increasing population, rising vehicular movement, and expanding commercial activities. These factors, he explained, hamper productivity, discourage investment, and increase the risk of accidents, making the flyover a crucial intervention under his administration's urban renewal agenda.

Aiyedatiwa also took the opportunity to thank President Tinubu for the economic reforms that have led to significantly increased federal allocations for all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. "Therefore, I want to thank Mr President for the reforms that he has embarked upon that have allowed all the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to access more money from the Federation Account," he said. This increased funding, he indicated, empowers states to undertake vital infrastructure projects that improve living standards and connectivity.
