Doosan Energy Exec Leads Nepal Flood Response Team for Missing Workers

Doosan Energy executive vice president Jung Yeon-in has arrived in Nepal with a specialized response team to spearhead efforts in rescuing and recovering employees missing after a severe flood struck the Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower construction site. The team landed in Nepal early Tuesday morning, local time, and is working closely with Nepalese authorities.

We will do our best to rescue the employees who are out of contact, in close cooperation with the relevant authorities.

The flood, which occurred on August 26 in the Bagmati Province, has resulted in nine individuals, six from Doosan Energy and three from Korea South-East Power, being unaccounted for. Nine of the ten Doosan Energy employees initially isolated by the flood have been safely evacuated by Nepalese military helicopters. The remaining employee is the site's general manager, who reportedly chose to stay until all local staff were rescued.

Doosan Group has committed $5 million (approximately 7 billion Korean won) in emergency aid to support the disaster relief efforts. Doosan Group Chairman Park Jeong-won addressed employees via internal message, acknowledging the gravity of the situation and expressing deep concern for the families of the missing workers. He assured that the company is mobilizing all its resources to confirm the safety and facilitate the swift return of its employees.

The Upper Trishuli-1 hydropower project, where Doosan Energy serves as the EPC contractor, was nearing completion with an 84% progress rate and a December target for commissioning. However, the recent flood caused extensive damage, with over 90% of the project's upper facilities reportedly destroyed. The company is also making arrangements to support families of the Nepalese staff who wish to travel to Nepal.
