Doskozil to return to state parliament after larynx removal

Burgenland Governor Hans Peter Doskozil is set to make his return to the state parliament next week, marking his first appearance since undergoing larynx removal surgery in April. He will participate in a special session convened to address the state's finances. The session was requested by the opposition ÖVP, which is seeking detailed answers from Doskozil concerning the province's financial health.

The special session is scheduled to begin Wednesday at 9:00 AM, with a break until 12:00 PM before the debate commences. The ÖVP intends to reiterate questions previously posed after the state audit office (BLRH) released a critical report in early July. According to ÖVP state party leader Christoph Zarits and parliamentary group leader Bernd Strobl, these questions have not yet been adequately answered.

SPÖ parliamentary group leader Roland Fürst has dismissed the ÖVP's request as an "opposition show" but affirmed that the SPÖ has no objection to "laying the facts on the table in the state parliament." The critical BLRH report issued in July warned of "acute and significant need for action by the state," noting that its reserves have been exhausted. The audit office projects a cumulative total loss of nearly one billion euros for the period between 2020 and 2026.

The SPÖ has vehemently rejected the audit office's findings, characterizing its approach as unprofessional. The upcoming parliamentary session is expected to be a focal point for political debate regarding the state's fiscal management and future financial stability.
