Dozens of Venezuelan Political Prisoners Released Under Conditions

Dozens of Venezuelan political prisoners left the El Rodeo I jail in Miranda state on Friday, though their release is conditional. After months or years of detention, the freed individuals must report to courts every 30 days. This development coincides with the conclusion of the first round of talks between the government and the opposition, mediated by the United States.

Jorge Jiménez, 20, was among those released after more than a year in custody. He must now travel monthly from Cojedes state to Caracas courts to comply with the reporting requirement. Christian Quintero, also released, reported being held incommunicado for four months in the facility, which he described as a "concentration center." Authorities had initially linked both young men to alleged terrorist plots in the capital, according to EFE news agency.

Lawyer José Moreno, who represents a U.S. mining company, was also released after three years and four months. Moreno expressed confusion over the charges of treason and conspiracy, stating there was "not a single piece of evidence" against him and that his assets were confiscated. The EFE report noted that Moreno thanked U.S. President Donald Trump, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and opposition leader María Corina Machado for their support.
