DPP Legislators Rally Behind Su Chiao-hui as New Taipei Election Registration Begins

Four Democratic Progressive Party councilors seeking re-election in New Taipei turned candidate registration into a pink-themed show of support for mayoral hopeful Su Chiao-hui.

Su registered at the New Taipei City Election Commission and led 36 councilor candidates under the banner of the “New Taipei Team.” The four returning councilors, Chang Chia-ling, Liao Yi-kun, Peng Chia-yun and Cheng Yu-en, joined a separate rally linked to the party's Ying faction.

We hope New Taipei will have more construction and more welfare in the future, and that residents' wishes can be fulfilled.

All four wore pink and prepared Yakult drinks. They chanted “2026, New Taipei will win with Hui” and “Hui gets things done, fight for re-election, the pink racing car moves forward.” The slogans played on Su's name and the campaign's pink racing-car image, while the drinks symbolized hopes for more construction, more welfare and more votes.

Chang said former President Tsai Ing-wen, described as the party's strongest political “mother hen,” was accompanying legislator Shen Po-yang's registration in Taipei, while New Taipei had invited Su to accompany its candidates. Peng said she had devoted eight years to local service and wanted voters to support councilors who could continue serving residents. Liao and Cheng also called for more development, welfare, policy support and votes.
