DPR Journalists Report Deddy Sitorus to MKD Over 'Circus' Statement

The Parliamentary Journalists Coordination (KWP) has officially lodged a complaint with the Honorary Council of Representatives (MKD) against Deddy Sitorus, a member of Commission II of the House of Representatives from the PDI-P faction. The complaint centers on remarks Sitorus allegedly made, referring to the press coverage as a 'circus' during a session.

On this day, we have officially submitted a report to the MKD, with the complaint number being Number 78.

According to Erwin Syahputra Siregar, Deputy Head of Administration for KWP, the report was formally submitted with case number 78. He stated that evidence, including a video of Sitorus's statement, was attached to bolster the complaint. The journalists' group took this action because Sitorus had not issued an apology for his comments.

We have also attached, in addition to the report letter, a video of his statement where he said 'circus' during the Commission II meeting yesterday.

Nazaruddin Dek Gam, Chairman of the MKD, confirmed receipt of the report. He indicated that the council would examine the complaint and schedule a summons for Sitorus. Given that the DPR is currently in recess, the MKD leadership and members will coordinate to determine the next steps and timeline for the summons.

Previously, Sitorus denied insulting journalists, asserting his respect for the profession. He claimed his 'circus' remark was directed at the chaotic situation in the meeting room, which was crowded with people standing during the ongoing session, not at the journalists themselves. He stated that video recordings and witness accounts from the meeting participants could verify his explanation.
