DPR to Hold Plenary Session Amid August 27 Protests

The Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) is set to convene its plenary session on Thursday, August 27, proceeding as scheduled despite a planned demonstration by various community organizations outside the parliament complex.

The plenary session, the third of the 2026-2027 session, carries several key agenda items. Notably, it includes the presentation of a report on the deliberation results of the Asset Confiscation Bill by Commission III of the DPR. However, the bill has not yet been officially deliberated as the DPR has not received a Presidential Letter (Surpres) regarding it.

Other significant agenda points for the plenary session include the government's stance on the views of various factions regarding the 2027 Draft State Budget. The session will also involve decision-making on changes to the 2027 Priority National Legislation Program (Prolegnas). Furthermore, it will cover the report on the fit and proper test for candidates for the Chief Executive Supervisor of the Strategic Mineral and Commodity Exchange of the OJK Board of Commissioners, the decision on the Forestry Bill as an initiative of the DPR, and a report from the DPR's 2026 Hajj Oversight Team.

In parallel, the demonstration outside the complex, initiated by the Alliance of United Pati People (AMPB), is expected to involve several other community organizations. AMPB coordinator Supriyono, also known as Botok, stated that the protesters' two main demands are for the DPR and the government to promptly ratify the Asset Confiscation Bill and to impose the harshest penalties for corruptors. Botok emphasized that the AMPB's action does not aim to unseat President Prabowo Subianto or Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. Instead, they urge the Prabowo administration to govern more effectively.
