Public Supports Pati Protesters with Donations Ahead of DPR Rally

As demonstrators prepare for a rally outside Indonesia's Parliament Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, the local community has shown its support through donations. Residents passing through Gatot Subroto Street have been contributing logistical supplies, including drinking water, food, and fresh vegetables, to the United Pati Society Alliance (AMPB) at their designated post.

The AMPB is gearing up for a significant demonstration scheduled for August 27, focusing on two core demands: the urgent passage of the Asset Forfeiture Bill and the imposition of the death penalty for convicted corruptors. AMPB Coordinator Supriyono, also known as Botok, clarified that the rally's agenda is strictly limited to these anti-corruption measures.

He further noted that while the AMPB supports the current administration, their primary goal is to advocate for stronger anti-corruption legislation and enforcement.

In anticipation of the protest, the Jakarta Metro Police have mobilized 4,274 personnel to ensure security across various demonstration sites in Jakarta. Sr. Comr. Budi Hermanto, Head of Public Relations for the Jakarta Metro Police, assured the public that the police presence is intended to safeguard democratic expression. "Expressing an opinion is the constitutional right of every citizen. The police are present to safeguard democratic space and ensure that aspirations can be expressed safely, peacefully, orderly, and responsibly," he said.

The police have strategically positioned officers to facilitate a smooth and secure environment for the demonstrations, which are expected to take place at the DPR building, the South Monas intersection, and Taman Pandang Silang Monas. The coordinated security effort aims to uphold public order while respecting citizens' rights to protest.
