Dr. Suprabhat Shrestha Appointed Nepal Medical Council Registrar

Dr. Suprabhat Shrestha has been appointed as the new registrar of the Nepal Medical Council, a significant move for the country's medical regulatory body. The appointment was formalized when Dr. Shrestha took the oath of office and secrecy in the presence of Health and Food Hygiene Minister Nisha Mehta.

Shrestha, who is a qualified dentist and an orthodontics specialist, is expected to bring a wealth of experience to his new role. His background includes extensive work within the council's various departments, covering crucial areas such as regulatory affairs, examination processes, medical education standards, and overall administrative functions.

His academic qualifications include a BDS degree from VMS Dental College in Tamil Nadu, India, and a doctorate in stomatology from Volgograd State Medical University in Russia. Prior to his appointment as registrar, Dr. Shrestha served the Medical Council in multiple capacities. He was an ex-officio member from 2014 to 2016 and later a nominated member from 2019 to 2023.

During his previous tenures, Dr. Shrestha played a key role in coordinating committees focused on critical aspects of medical practice and education. These included committees responsible for curriculum development, examination oversight, upholding professional ethics, and managing procurement processes within the council.
