Dragoș Bucur on fathering a daughter: 'The hardest thing in the world,' but sparks fly with independence

Dragoș Bucur, a Romanian actor, finds fathering a teenage daughter to be the most challenging aspect of parenthood. His eldest daughter, Sofia, who is now 19 and lives independently, occasionally has disagreements with him. Bucur attributes these sparks to his own parenting style, which encouraged her to voice her opinions from a young age. "It's a lot to talk about, being a father to a daughter is probably the hardest thing in the world," Bucur stated in an interview with Viva magazine. "I have a good relationship with Sofia, although sparks sometimes fly between us, but that's because I encouraged her from a young age to support her points of view – basically, I'm reaping what I've sown."

Despite Sofia living apart from her parents, Bucur emphasizes the strong connection they share. They have engaged in many activities together, including hiking, writing screenplays, stargazing, scuba diving, cycling, and marathon TV series viewing. They are currently collaborating on a screenplay project titled "Delta Neagră" (Black Delta), and Sofia is preparing for university. Bucur also noted that Sofia maintains frequent contact with her younger siblings, Kadri and Roxana, seeing them about twice a week.

The actor also shared insights into his family's lifestyle change. Several years ago, Bucur and his wife, Dana Nălbaru, moved away from the bustling capital to live closer to nature in a village in Argeș county. Their two younger children, Kadri and Roxana, actively participate in household chores. "They both do sports and attend a club in Pitești, which gives them many common topics, and life in a house with a yard almost forces them to have a close relationship," Bucur explained. Kadri is passionate about books, Roxana about drawing, and both enjoy animals and playing in the yard, contributing significantly to the household tasks.
