Drain cleaner exploded like a bomb: 6 injured

An explosion occurred in a supermarket in the Haliliye district of Turkey when a chemical drain cleaner reacted violently. The incident left six people injured, prompting an immediate response from emergency services.

The event unfolded when a chain market manager called a plumber to address a clogged drain in the store's kitchen. Three plumbers arrived at the scene and poured a chemical drain opener into the clogged pipe. When hot water was subsequently added, the chemical mixture detonated like a bomb.

As a result of the explosion, three plumbers and three supermarket employees sustained injuries. They suffered burns on various parts of their bodies. Medical teams were dispatched to the scene following the emergency calls and transported the six injured individuals to hospitals in the city center for treatment.

Following the incident, police and disaster management (AFAD) teams initiated an investigation at the scene to determine the exact cause and circumstances of the explosion.
