DRC Ebola Response Assessed by Top British Scientific Advisor

Professor John Edmunds, the Chief Scientific Advisor for the UK's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, has concluded a four-day assessment mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The visit, which ended on Thursday, August 27, centered on evaluating the effectiveness of the response to the Ebola outbreak.

Professor Edmunds focused his evaluation on two key areas: the Ituri province and the capital city, Kinshasa. These regions have been significantly impacted by the ongoing Ebola epidemic, making them critical sites for assessing response strategies and their outcomes.

The mission took place against the backdrop of substantial financial aid from the UK, amounting to $29 million USD, aimed at bolstering the DRC's efforts to combat the virus. The advisor's assessment is expected to provide crucial insights into how these resources are being utilized and the overall progress of the containment measures.
