Driver in Fatal Brașov Crash Was Reportedly a Hero 11 Years Ago for Drowning Rescue

The driver responsible for a tragic accident in Brașov, Romania, which resulted in two deaths and one serious injury, was reportedly hailed as a hero 11 years prior for saving a tourist from drowning. The 50-year-old man lost control of his vehicle on Tuesday evening, driving onto a sidewalk and striking three pedestrians.

According to BizBrașov, the driver may have suffered an epileptic seizure while driving. Police are considering a medical cause for the incident and are continuing their investigation into the exact circumstances. The accident occurred around 9:00 PM on Mureșenilor Street, where the driver reportedly lost control near a roundabout, veered onto a green space, and then onto the sidewalk, hitting the pedestrians.

The victims were identified as two German tourists and a man from Piatra Neamț. The driver was also transported to the hospital following the incident. Eleven years before this tragedy, the man was involved in a different event: he reportedly saved a tourist from drowning on Neptun beach. His actions were recognized at the time, and he was considered a hero for his life-saving intervention.

Investigators are working to confirm if the driver experienced a medical crisis before losing control of the car. He was tested for alcohol and drugs, with both results coming back negative. The investigation is ongoing to determine all factors contributing to the accident.
