Drizzle Surprises Lima Residents; Gray Skies and Cooler Temperatures Expected to Persist

Lima residents were met with a persistent drizzle and overcast skies on Friday morning, disrupting commutes and prompting the use of warmer attire. The damp weather marked the start of the day across various districts of the capital, accompanied by lingering humidity.

The meteorological conditions also contributed to slower traffic on major roadways as drivers reduced speed to avoid potential incidents. According to the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi), the sky is expected to remain cloudy throughout the morning, becoming partly cloudy in the afternoon, with wind gusts and temperatures ranging between 17°C and 23°C. Drizzle is anticipated to continue into the evening.

Yuri Escajadillo, a specialist from Senamhi, explained in an interview that the current drizzle is part of a weather advisory valid until Saturday, June 20. He indicated that similar conditions might persist into the early hours of the weekend, aligning with the transitional season leading into winter.

Looking ahead, Senamhi forecasts that Lima's winter, beginning June 21, will feature warmer temperatures than typically experienced for this time of year. Mornings are expected to be characterized by fog, while daytime hours may bring periods of sunshine. Temperatures could potentially reach up to 27°C during peak sunlight hours, alongside humid mornings and partly cloudy skies in different parts of the capital.
