Drone Attacks Hit Tankers Near Kazakhstan's Caspian Oil Terminal; No Casualties Reported

Drone attacks targeted two oil tankers near Kazakhstan's Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) marine terminal on July 30, according to the Ministry of Energy. The tanker Nissos Sifnos was struck by a drone as it was completing its loading at a single point mooring. CPC had suspended oil loading operations as a precaution due to the threat of attack.

The tanker Marathi, also scheduled for loading, was targeted approximately 6-7 nautical miles from the terminal. While there were no reported casualties among the crew members and no oil spill occurred, a fire broke out on one vessel. This fire was successfully extinguished with the assistance of three CPC tugboats.

Kazakhstan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attacks, labeling them an unacceptable infringement on the country's economic interests. The ministry demanded an immediate cessation of attacks on vessels and infrastructure used for exporting Kazakh oil. Kazakhstan is currently assessing the damage and reserves its right to pursue legal mechanisms, including claims for compensation, under international law.
