Drone Capabilities Displayed as Army Honors Kargil Heroes at Shaurya Sandhya

In Dras, amidst a rain-soaked Saturday evening, the Indian Army organized a solemn 'Shaurya Sandhya' at the Kargil War Memorial. The event paid tribute to the brave Indian soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the Kargil conflict in 1999, marking the 27th anniversary of Operation Vijay.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was a key participant, honoring the fallen heroes. He presented a ceremonial 'kalash' to members of the families of soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. The ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Ladakh LG V K Saxena, Army Chief General Dhiraj Seth, and Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma, along with military veterans.

The evening featured patriotic songs performed by a band of the Ladakh Scouts, creating a poignant atmosphere. Guests later lit candles near the main memorial's obelisk, illuminating the 'Veer Bhoomi' cenotaph zone with hundreds of neatly placed stones, creating an aesthetic and moving tribute as night fell.

Earlier in the day, the Army hosted several other events to mark the anniversary. The commemoration began on Saturday with 'Yudh Sansmaran' at the Lamochen viewpoint, overlooking the historic Kargil battlefield. This event recounted India's victory during Operation Vijay, the military operation to recapture Kargil heights from Pakistani troops.

'Yudh Sansmaran' included a video presentation detailing the Kargil war and India's triumph, followed by a clip honoring 40 Kargil bravehearts whose families were present. Major General Amit Prakash Singh and other senior officers, Kargil War veterans, and families of the fallen soldiers were in attendance. The Defense Minister is scheduled to be the chief guest at another homage ceremony, 'Shradhanjali Samaroh,' on Sunday.
