Drua’s blend of youth and experience paying dividends

The McDonald’s Fiji Drua Women have enjoyed a highly successful 2026 season, culminating in securing the minor premiership and a spot in the historic Super Rugby Women’s Grand Final. Head coach Mike Legge attributes the team's strong performance to the effective integration of experienced players with a significant number of new faces.

The squad entered the season with around 14 debutants, yet they have managed to build remarkable cohesion. Legge expressed his impressiveness, though not surprise, at how rapidly the group has united. "I’ve been massively impressed, but not surprised," he stated. "Again, we’ve got a good blend here, and the girls have been together for a little while now."

Looking ahead to the Grand Final against the NSW Waratahs, Legge anticipates a tough challenge. The Waratahs have bolstered their squad with key player returns and have shown strong recent form. The Drua Women will be competing for their third Super Rugby Women’s title when they host the final in Ba on Saturday.
