Drug suspect César Caicedo ordered to prison after month-long hospital stay

César Caicedo, who faces charges related to drug trafficking as part of the "Operación Nodriza," has been ordered to enter a penitentiary within one month. The decision came from a judge during a review of precautionary measures, requested by Caicedo's defense team to facilitate his transfer between hospitals.

Caicedo has been hospitalized since May 20, following an appendicitis operation. He has since been moved between three different medical facilities. Despite an order for his provisional detention issued by the Superior Appeals Court in May, he has remained in hospitals. The prosecution confirmed his movements, noting his initial stay at a medical center in Brisas del Golf, followed by a period at Hospital Santo Tomás, and a return to the Brisas del Golf facility.

His defense successfully argued for his transfer to a private hospital on Vía España for specialized medical exams. The judge granted this request but stipulated that his hospitalization would last only one month, after which he must surrender to prison authorities. The prosecution countered that Caicedo had not sought hospitalization prior to his arrest in December and had undergone eight evaluations by the Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences, all indicating a stable condition. This medical assessment was a key factor for the Superior Appeals Court in initially ordering his provisional detention.
