Drunk Driver Crashes Car onto Restaurant Terrace in Lugoj, Injuring Four

Dramatic scenes unfolded in Lugoj, Romania, when a driver, identified as being under the influence of alcohol and lacking a license, evaded police and caused a serious accident. The incident occurred late Friday night when officers attempted to stop a vehicle on Bucegi Street. The driver ignored their signals and sped away, initiating a pursuit by law enforcement.

The chase concluded on Timișorii Street, where the fleeing driver lost control of the car. The vehicle collided with an oncoming car, which was being driven legally. The impact was so severe that the second car was propelled onto the terrace of a nearby restaurant, creating a chaotic scene.

Four individuals sustained injuries and were transported to the hospital. These included the driver who was being pursued, the 20-year-old female driver of the car that was hit, a 16-year-old girl who was a passenger in that vehicle, and a 44-year-old man who was present on the restaurant terrace at the time of the crash. The fleeing driver's breathalyzer test revealed a blood alcohol concentration of 1.02 mg/l.

Further investigations revealed that the 27-year-old driver did not possess a driving license for any category of vehicle. The car involved in the chase was also found to belong to another individual, prompting authorities to investigate how the suspect came into possession of the vehicle. He faces multiple charges, including driving without a license, driving under the influence of alcohol, theft for use, and negligent bodily harm. He has been detained for 24 hours as the investigation continues.
