Drunk driver crashes into lamppost in Vilnius; faces charges

A man driving under the influence of alcohol crashed his vehicle into a lamppost in Vilnius early Friday morning. The incident occurred on Liepkalnis Street around 3:07 a.m. on July 10. Police reported that the driver, born in 1992, was found to be moderately intoxicated, with a blood alcohol level of 2.31 promille. His Toyota veered off the road before striking the street light pole. This event follows a similar incident on July 4, where a young driver's BMW collided with a pole on Žirmūnai Street, resulting in a fire and the deaths of two teenagers. In that case, the 19-year-old driver had a blood alcohol content of 0.58 promille. Additionally, another intoxicated driver was involved in a crash in the Šalčininkai district on Friday afternoon. Driving a Volvo V40, the 43-year-old man registered a blood alcohol level of 3.34 promille after his vehicle went into a ditch. Police have initiated pre-trial investigations for both drivers involved in the Friday incidents, who now face potential criminal liability.
