Dublin crèche worker to be honored for bravery in protecting children

Leanne Flynn, a crèche worker in Dublin, is set to be honored by Dublin City Council for her exceptional bravery during the Parnell Square attack in November 2023. Flynn demonstrated immense courage by shielding young children from a knife-wielding attacker, sustaining stab wounds in the process.

An event will be held in the autumn to recognize Ms. Flynn's heroic actions on that day. The council also plans a reception to acknowledge the bystanders who intervened and provided assistance during the attack. This recognition highlights the community's appreciation for those who acted selflessly in a moment of crisis.

In separate decisions, Dublin City Council also agreed to honor Shamrock Rovers captain and Cape Verde defender Roberto 'Pico' Lopes for his outstanding performance at the World Cup. His team's historic run, reaching the knockout stages as the smallest nation ever to do so, garnered significant international attention. Additionally, the council passed a motion condemning the scheduling of the Republic of Ireland's Nations League matches against Israel in September and October, calling on the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) to withdraw from these fixtures.
