Dung Quất College Opens Vocational Program for People Reentering Society

Dung Quất College of Technology has begun a new academic year with an expanded mandate: helping people from special groups gain vocational skills, career guidance and access to jobs.

From the 2026-27 academic year, the college will train citizens who have completed service in the People’s Public Security force, former prisoners reentering society and people undergoing treatment at drug rehabilitation facilities. The program forms part of a Ministry of Public Security initiative focused on vocational training and employment support.

The college enrolled 1,465 students this year. It is licensed to offer 18 college-level programs, 19 intermediate programs, 17 elementary programs and driver-training courses.

The September 5 opening ceremony also marked the school’s transfer, in its entirety, from the Ministry of Education and Training to the Ministry of Public Security under Prime Minister’s Decision 1569/QĐ-TTg, dated August 14, 2026. The Department of Police Management of Detention, Temporary Detention and Community-Based Criminal Sentence Enforcement will oversee the college.

Principal Lê Thành Nam said the transfer opened a new phase for the institution. Alongside training students who have completed lower or upper secondary school, the college will take on responsibility for preparing special groups for work and supporting their return to community life.

Major General Phạm Kim Đĩnh, director of the Ministry of Public Security’s Department of Political Affairs, urged the college to quickly complete its organization, programs, textbooks and facilities. He called the work a task with deep social and humanitarian value that could help prevent crime early and support sustainable reintegration.

The college has also signed agreements with businesses in Quảng Ngãi’s VSIP Industrial Park and the Dung Quất Economic Zone. Those partnerships are intended to provide practical training and improve students’ chances of finding work after graduation.
