Duplicate card charges corrected after system error

Numerous customers of Arion bank and Landsbankinn in Iceland encountered duplicate charges on their payment cards yesterday, stemming from a system error. The issue affected transactions made by many clients, leading to confusion and potential disruption in account balances.

The problem has been traced to a system malfunction at Rapyd, a payment processing service provider in Iceland. Reports indicate that the error primarily impacted Arion bank and Landsbankinn, although the full extent of its reach is being assessed.

Haraldur Guðni Eiðsson, information officer for Arion bank, confirmed that the error has since been rectified. While account spending limits should now be correct, he noted that some transaction records might still appear incorrectly on statements. Efforts are underway to resolve these display issues, assuring customers that their available funds are not affected.
